Combining Kansas City and Oklahoma-based artists, exhibition opens December 16 at Hardesty Art Center in Tulsa, OK
FOCUS: OK-KC, a collaboration with the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition (OVAC), is the latest in an ongoing series of Charlotte Street exhibition exchange projects designed to connect outstanding artists, arts organizations, and arts communities between the coasts. Featuring Artist INC II alum, Cory Imig, and four more Kansas City artists, Jason Carron, Charlie Mylie, Lindsey Griffith, and Garry Noland. Oklahoma artists include Grace Grothaus, Aaron Hauck, Geoffrey Krawczyk, and Romy Owens; FOCUS: OK-KC debuts December 16, 1-5pm, at the brand new Hardesty Art Center in Tulsa, OK, and includes a series of related public programs. A new iteration of the exhibition project will open at Charlotte Street’s la Esquina venue in March 2013.
Melbourne, Australia-based independent curator Liza Statton selected the Kansas City and Oklahoma artists earlier this year from an open call for applications followed by studio visits in Kansas City and throughout Oklahoma, and is curating the exhibition in Tulsa. Charlotte Street Curator-in-Residence Jamilee Polson Lacy will work closely with the artists to plan the Kansas City presentation of their work.
FOCUS: OK-KC is presented at the Hardesty Art Center as one part of OVAC’s larger Concept/OK project, which also includes a large survey show of Oklahoma artists and projects by three artists-in-residence. The project is accompanied by a full-color catalogue. Learn more about the FOCUS:OK-KC artists and their work at conceptokkc.tumblr.com
