The sixth-annual NANO Prize, awarding publication and $500 to a previously unpublished work of fiction 300 words or fewer, opened on April 1 and this year’s contest will be judged by Kim Chinquee! All entrants will receive a one-year subscription to NANO Fiction and winners will be announced in mid-September.
Rules and Guidelines: All entries must be unpublished and 300 words or fewer. While there will be only one winner of the contest, all submitted pieces will be considered for publication.
The entry fee is $15 for up to three shorts. Please paste all three works into the submission manager as one submission. You may enter as many times as you like. Each separate entry requires its own entry fee of $15. Entry fees are nonrefundable. Please withdraw your submission immediately if taken elsewhere.
The entrant’s name should not appear anywhere in the body of the submission. Friends and family of the editors are not eligible to submit.
Deadline: September 1, 2014.
NANO Fiction is currently accepting previously unpublished works of fiction 300 words or fewer.
NANO is looking for work that experiments with form while still balancing narrative. They are interested in stories they haven’t read before, stories you think they are tired of reading–but are told in such in a new way that they gain fresh insights, writing remain attentive to language and lyricism without abandoning story, and work that surprise them–but not by using a trick ending. They also are looking for writing that takes unexpected perspectives on commonly-seen stories.
NANO asks that all submissions for publication be sent through their online submission manager and that previous contributors please wait two years from being published with them to submit again.
All submission guidelines are located on our submission manager website. Before submitting, they strongly recommend taking a moment to read through their online archive.
Queries and other correspondence may be sent to Elizabeth Wade firstname.lastname@example.org. Unsolicited, emailed work will not be responded to. Submissions are rolling.
Print Rights: They require exclusive print rights to all accepted work(s) for three (3) months after publication and non-exclusive print rights indefinitely for potential anthologies and promotional materials. Electronic Rights: They require exclusive electronic rights to all accepted work(s) for three (3) months after publication and non-exclusive rights indefinitely so they may include it in our online archives and ebooks.
