The Kansas City Flatfile is a biennial exhibition that features two-dimensional artwork by Kansas City visual artists. Visitors are invited to browse through artist portfolios and view changing Salon Wall presentations. Throughout the exhibitions guest curators from the Kansas City area and surrounding region are invited to curate temporary salon-style presentations from the flatfiles. The Kansas City Flatfile exhibitions have a studio-like characteristic for the participating artists and the public and encourage a natural exchange of ideas and practices through a hands-on approach.…

Carswell & Hope, a Lawrence band fronted by Irishman Nick Carswell, launch plans to release their debut record and take it to Ireland this Summer. The alt-rock four-piece (with Jason Slote on drums, Dan Hines on bass and Austin Quick on keys) have launched a crowd-funding campaign to fund the release of the record and a trip to Ireland to play an 11-date tour with local musicians and Carswell’s former Irish bandmates, The Elective Orchestra.
Before moving to Lawrence in 2011, Nick Carswell wrote songs and performed with the indie-folk group The Elective Orchestra, with sisters Dee and Kate Cussen on cello and violin, and Sian Murray on vocals.…
The Midwest Dramatists Center (“MDC”) is pleased to announce that it has signed a lease to establish its headquarters and create a black box theater at The Writers Place of Kansas City. MDC is a playwrights’ collective founded by author and playwright David Hanson. The purpose of MDC is to provide resources, space, and community for local playwrights to develop their works-in-progress through public readings and to help build a playwriting career regionally and nationally for selected playwrights.
Each year, five regional playwrights will be selected by a Board of Directors to serve a five-year residency with MDC.…
The Kansas City Artists Coalition has several upcoming Volunteer Opportunities for fall. They are exhibition related: general gallery help, art installation, packing artwork. Spending time at the Coalition is a great way to introduce yourself to the staff who also administer the Lighton International Artists Exchange Program and run the Kansas City International Residency.

City Ice Arts is pleased to present Misha Kligman’s solo exhibition “Threshold”, an environment of eight large- scale paintings. Kligman is interested in painting’s ability to both generate mean and act as its conduit, and more specifically in painting’s transformative potential.
